Self Assessment of Compliance (SACS)

"Housing associations must be independent (except where they are subsidiaries of other housing associations)and properly constituted not-for-profit organisations. They must operate financially sustainable and efficient businesses and should be committed to, and primarily focused on, providing good and responsive housing and related services and amenities for those whose personal circumstances make it difficult for them to meet their housing needs in the open market. In doing so they will conduct their business according to the following principles."

In the introduction to its publication, "Self assessment compliance statements and annual efficiency statements" (March 2007), the HC states "it is now more appropriate for associations to focus on what has changed since their previous submission and provide an evidenced overview of their year-on-year improved performance".
