Tenants in the Limelight

Des Brittain

We are pleased to share the successes of two of Innisfree's tenants, Des Brittain and Carol O'Donovan.

Des is now appearing regularly at the Questor's Theatre in Ealing. See him here in his recent role in A Woman in Mind by Alan Ayckbourn.

Carol is a published poet and two of her poems are published below.

A Poem Called Home

Thanks to Innisfree
for taking care of me
I have a home to call my own
and put it down in a poem
it is great to have a welcome mat
Innisfree Housing deserve a pat on the back
I have shared the backpacker flat
in the bedsit laid my hat
but better days are here now
my own front door and set of keys wow
the best days are with your own front door
who could ask for anything more
I enjoy my own place
its nice to see a smiling face at my front door!

Carol O'Donovan

The Grandad

To Herbert Armitage, for fond memories

The smell of the pipe tobacco
Memories from long ago
A man remembered for his wit
And braces and flamboyant kit
A writer after my own heart
A letter each week when we were apart
By Christ I should have known
My heart would turn to stone
Left in the lurch
When they went to the church
The funeral mass was said
I did not leave my bed
A better man I had not known
My heart did turn to stone
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
His memory will not rust
