Innisfree have launched a new project to hear the stories of tenants who emigrated from their homes in the 1960’s and 70’s to work in London and the UK.
The project, launched in June, will provide an opportunity for older Irish people to tell their story of emigration from their homes in Ireland. The project which is led by Fiona Smith from Federation of Irish Societies, with support from Age Exchange in Blackheath, will also consider the wider scope of emigration to the UK. A documentary film of stories will be launched in September.
Innisfree are very grateful for the award of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to develop this unique project. Jim Sheeran from Innisfree says, ‘This is a great opportunity for Irish emigrants who moved here in the 60’s and 70’s to tell their tale of seeking work and setting roots here in the UK. It’s great fun listening to stories, music and events which happened on the way to London’.
The project which is halfway completed this July will finish up with a day recording stories and a major presentation event in September.
